Is SureCookie GDPR Compliant? (Overview)
The short answer: SureCookie gives you the technical tools to meet GDPR’s cookie-consent requirements, but no plugin can make a website “GDPR compliant” on its own. Compliance also depends on how you configure it, the policies you publish, and the legal advice you follow for your situation.
This overview explains what SureCookie handles for you and what stays your responsibility.
What GDPR Asks For
For cookies, the GDPR (and the UK GDPR) expects consent that is prior (nothing non-essential runs before it), freely given, specific, and informed, as easy to withdraw as to give, and documented. SureCookie is built around exactly these requirements.

How SureCookie Helps
- Prior consent – Non-essential scripts and embeds are blocked until the visitor agrees, using Resource Blocking with the opt-in model. See Resource / Script Blocking and Consent Models Explained.
- Specific, granular consent – Visitors accept or reject by category (Essential, Functional, Analytics, Marketing), with Accept and Decline shown at equal prominence and no pre-ticked boxes.
- Informed consent – A clear banner plus a cookie policy page, with multilingual support so the banner appears in the visitor’s language.
- Easy withdrawal – Visitors can reopen their preferences at any time, and you can re-request consent from everyone after a policy change.
- Proof of consent (Article 7) – Every choice is recorded. Export a PDF proof for a single record or a CSV of your logs. See Exporting Consent Logs.
- Your data stays on your server – Consent records live in your WordPress database, not a third-party dashboard.
- Region-aware – Geographic Targeting applies the right model per region, opt-in for the EU, and Google Consent Mode v2 forwards consent to Google services (required for EU visitors).
- Know your cookies – The scanner detects the cookies in use and categorizes them, so your disclosures stay accurate.
What You Still Need to Do
SureCookie is the toolkit; you complete the picture:
- Configure it correctly – Turn on Script and Content Blocking, use the opt-in model for EU visitors, and organize your cookies into the right categories.
- Publish your policies – Provide a clear privacy and cookie policy. SureCookie can generate a cookie policy page for you.
- Keep it accurate – Re-scan when you add plugins, embeds, or tracking scripts, so newly added cookies are disclosed and gated.
- Confirm your legal obligations – The right setup depends on your audience and jurisdiction. Determine your legal basis with professional advice.
Beyond GDPR
SureCookie also supports other frameworks, so you can apply the right approach per region: CCPA/CPRA (opt-out) and LGPD, plus Google Consent Mode v2 and IAB TCF integrations.
Important: SureCookie provides the technical infrastructure for consent management. It is not legal advice, and using it does not by itself guarantee compliance. Your obligations depend on your policies and jurisdiction, so always consult a qualified legal professional.
