SureCookie can be managed by your AI assistant. Through MCP<\/strong> (Model Context Protocol, an open standard for connecting AI clients to tools), assistants like Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor can read and change your SureCookie configuration for you: update banner settings, run a cookie scan, recategorize cookies, or pull consent-log summaries, all from a chat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You’ll find the setup at SureCookie \u2192 Settings \u2192 MCP<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Your Assistant Can Do<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Once connected, an AI client gets a set of SureCookie abilities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • Manage settings<\/strong> \u2013 Read or update banner, blocking, and consent settings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Run the scanner<\/strong> \u2013 Start a scan, check its status, read its logs, or cancel it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Manage cookies<\/strong> \u2013 List scanned and custom cookies, add or edit custom ones, and recategorize.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Manage categories<\/strong> \u2013 List, create, or edit cookie categories.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Query consent logs<\/strong> \u2013 Filter and summarize consent records (these contain personal data, so connect only clients you trust).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Ask things like “turn on the cookie banner,” “run a scan and tell me what it found,” or “how many visitors declined this week?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Requirements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
      \n
    • WordPress 6.9 or later<\/strong> \u2013 MCP relies on the WordPress Abilities API.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • The MCP Adapter plugin<\/strong> \u2013 WordPress’s official adapter that exposes abilities over MCP. If it’s missing, the MCP screen shows a notice with a Download from GitHub<\/strong> link.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • An admin account over HTTPS<\/strong> \u2013 Connections authenticate as a real user with that user’s permissions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Step 1: Enable MCP<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
        \n
      1. Go to SureCookie \u2192 Settings \u2192 MCP<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      2. Turn on Enable MCP<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      3. Click Save<\/strong>. The MCP endpoint becomes active only after you save.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        When the toggle is off, no abilities are registered and AI clients can’t connect, so this switch is also your master off-button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Step 2: Create an Application Password<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

        AI clients authenticate with a WordPress Application Password<\/strong>, not your login password.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          \n
        1. On the MCP screen, click Open Application Passwords<\/strong> (it takes you to your profile).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        2. Create a new application password named for the client (for example, “Claude Desktop”).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        3. Copy it somewhere safe; WordPress shows it only once.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

          Step 3: Add the Connection to Your AI Client<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

          The MCP screen generates a ready-to-copy configuration for each client, with your site’s endpoint and username filled in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          1. Pick your client’s tab: Claude Desktop<\/strong> (claude_desktop_config.json<\/code>), Claude Code<\/strong> (.mcp.json<\/code>), Cursor<\/strong> (.cursor\/mcp.json<\/code>), or VS Code<\/strong> (.vscode\/mcp.json<\/code>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          2. Click Copy JSON config<\/strong> and paste it into that client’s configuration file.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          3. Replace your-application-password<\/code> in the JSON with the password from Step 2.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          4. For ChatGPT<\/strong>, go to Settings \u2192 Connectors \u2192 Add Connector<\/strong>, paste the endpoint URL, and use your WordPress username with the Application Password.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

            SureCookie Only vs Global<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

            The configuration has two scopes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              \n
            • SureCookie Only<\/strong> \u2013 The assistant connects to SureCookie’s own MCP server and sees only SureCookie abilities. The safer default.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Global<\/strong> \u2013 The assistant connects to the MCP Adapter’s site-wide server, which exposes abilities from every plugin that registers them, useful if you manage more of your site through AI.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

              Keep It Secure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
              \n

              Important:<\/strong> A connected AI client acts with the permissions of the WordPress user behind the Application Password, and consent logs include visitor data. Connect only clients you trust, use a dedicated Application Password per client, and revoke a password from your profile the moment a client no longer needs access. Turning off Enable MCP<\/strong> cuts off all clients at once.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

              Troubleshooting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
                \n
              • “MCP Adapter plugin not detected”<\/strong> \u2013 Install the adapter from the Download from GitHub<\/strong> link on the screen, activate it, and reload.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
              • “WordPress Abilities API not available”<\/strong> \u2013 MCP needs WordPress 6.9 or later. Update WordPress.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
              • The client can’t connect<\/strong> \u2013 Make sure you clicked Save<\/strong> after enabling (the endpoint activates on save), the JSON’s password placeholder was replaced, and your site is reachable over HTTPS.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
              • Authentication fails<\/strong> \u2013 Application Passwords may be disabled on your site or blocked by a security plugin. Confirm they’re available on your profile page.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
